2011 Recipient Organizations
 
Thanks to an annonymous donation for shipping costs, in commemoratation of "National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week" (November 12-20th), following is the list of our 2011 recipients:

2011 Author of the Year: Brianna Karp
 
Common Ground Worldwide has named Brianna Karp as its 2011  "Author of the Year". Ms. Karp is the author of The Girl's Guide to Homelessness: A Memoir.
 
Deeply compassionate and darkly funny, this unforgettable memoir celebrates the courage and creativity of lives society would otherwise stigmatize.
 
Common Ground Worldwide proudly applauds the courage demonstrated by Ms. Karp during her journey through homelessness on to becoming a voice for those, who still suffer.
 
 
 
2010
Inspirational books were donated to the following shelters:

  • Women's Shelter Program (San Luis Obispo, California)
  • Prado Day Center (San Luis Obispo, California)
 
YWCA Salem Outreach Center sent the following note:
"We really appreciated all of the books that you gave to us for our shelter. With our great need in helping so many families, we are always so grateful toward those who give. Thank you so very much from all of us at the YWCA Salem Outreach Center."
 
Mid-Valley Women's Crisis Service wrote:
"Thank you so much for the books for our shelter. Every year, we have 300-500 women and children in shelter, so books are always an important part of building a supportive environment. You have helped make it a home."
 
2009
Books & bookcases were donated to two shelters in California's state capital:
  • Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center, for folks who are experiencing homelessness
  • WEAVE, for survivors of domestic
violence.
 
Sacramento Area Emergency Housing Center's Newsletter reported the following:
 
"The Women's Refuge Library was given a facelift as a result of a generous donation received from Common Ground Worldwide. Thank you to Common Ground Worldwide, its Executive Director, Rev. Cynthia Rae Eastman, and Chronicle Books for their generous donation of a beautiful new bookcase and over 40 new books full of wisdom and inspiration for our clients. 
 
Common Ground Worldwide, based out of San Luis Obispo, chose SAEHC to be a beneficiary of its "Books-4-Shelters" project Book Drive. This national project delivers inspirational books and bookcases to shelters for homeless families and survivors of domestic violence."
