Paso Demonstration Garden
600 Nickerson Drive, Paso Robles, CA

The Paso Demo garden was established in 2009 as an example of how local residents can replace their lawns with water-saving food gardens. In January 2015, Common Ground Worldwide began a partnership with the garden's founders, which we see as a wonderful opportunity for local residents to come together around shared interests of caring for our local oak woodlands, water table, and each other.

Over the past year, we've discovered that the garden indeed provides a sense of "common ground," both for ourselves and for other community members who visit and volunteer. As soon as folks get their hands in the soil and start pulling weeds, differences in age, income, and cultural background become irrelevant.  We hope to continue developing the garden as a space to cultivate meaningful connections, meet neighbors, and enjoy nature while also learning to grow food and ornamental plants in ways that protect our natural resources.

How Our Garden Grows

The Paso Demo Garden incorporates drought tolerant natives and Mediterranean climate adapted perennials into an edible landscape that is both beautiful and water conscious. It is Northern SLO County's only public space utilizing permaculture design principles, and is grown using no pesticides or synthetic chemicals. Produce from the garden is shared among volunteers, with regular donations to the SLO County Food Bank in Paso Robles.

Join Us

The garden is open to the public on Wednesdays, 1 - 3pm.

We are currently seeking volunteers to help maintain the garden by watering, weeding, and serving as hosts to help expand our "open hours" for visitors.  Please contact us if you're interested in volunteering!

We offer private workshops and tours free of charge to school groups, scouts, and other organizations upon request.

The garden is an open gathering space available by appointment to community groups for meetings and events, regardless of religious affiliation, gender identity, or cultural background.
